Our mission is to utilize technology to positively impact the lives of patients who experience difficulty receiving mental health care by conventional means.
About Telepsychiatry
Telemedicine is the remote delivery of health care services and clinical information using telecommunications technology (ATA, 2018). Telepsychiatry is the application of telemedicine to treat patients in the medical specialty of Psychiatry.
Telepsychiatry is a rapidly growing practice. Many hospitals, health systems, and individual patients have embraced telepsychiatry because of the following benefits:
- Psychiatrists typically do not conduct a physical exam during their evaluation. Therefore, a face-to-face video conference session is very similar to an in-person session.
- There is a shortage of mental health providers. The shortage of psychiatrists and specialized psychiatrists is especially severe. Telepsychiatry can connect these specialists, typically located in metropolitan areas, to patients all over the state.
- Telepsychiatry services can be delivered in the home. Patients who are mobility impaired or medically fragile benefit by receiving services via a virtual "house call" instead of traveling to the Psychiatrist's office.
- Telepsychiatry services are often billable to Medicare and Medicaid at the same rates as in-person services.
